Krampus, wearing a 'human' mask

We recently took a course just about the local holidays between now and Ash Wednesday. It took two hours! One thing we learned about is an Austrian figure who accompanys Santa Clause to chase away bad spirits with a switch (which he often uses on people). He's called Krampus and looks like a hairy devil.

A few days ago we went to a festival so we could se Kampus in action. I was truly astonished at how huge he is– about 7 feet tall, nearly 3 ft. wide, and has goat's feet. Here is a photo, but after he had lost his head, unfortuanately. We'll try to see him again before he goes into hibernation.

My inspiration has migrated from traditional materials to working with the field of the psyche as if it were a theater. Many of my recent ideas and inspirations have to do with relationships and how we inhabit the earth and our unique slot in the story of evolution. I wish to use art– or whatever it is I do now– to move the evolution of humanity forward into an increasingly responsive, inclusive and sustainable culture. As globalization flattens peoples into capitalist monoculture I hope to use my art to celebrate historical cultural differences and imagine how we can co-create a rich future together.
