Though refreshingly cheaper, it has much that is refined. The architecture is fascinating- looming and top-heavy in contrast to Austrian baroque airiness. They emphasize the upper floor or roof-level with balconies, cupolas and heavy ornaments– maybe a Byzantine influence– that gieves the buildings quite a personality. The city was the spoils of empires of rcenturies often divided sown the middle between East and West, and still shows influences of all her suitors.
The oldest and cutest subway on the continent is crafted in tile and varnished wood. I'd hang out after the little train dropped me, just to BE there! Other differences: they kiss on the left cheek first, and when entering a cafe or bar- traditionlly- the man must go first (in case he has to take a punch). I'll be back; maybe even to do a sculpture exhibit film screening!
